Gids 22

Me and Eliane share the same client. I just did this editorial piece for the VPRO Gids #22, illustrating an article on a new Discovery Channel show entitled 'Dirty Jobs' about people with ...dirty jobs.

Gids 21

I didn't receive a VPRO-Gids myself yet, but somebody sent me a picture, so it's out there all right. I'll put a larger image in my portfolio later today.

Dangerous cartoonist inactivated

A statement against an almost totalitarian police action in the Netherlands, involving a police raid, house-search, seizure and imprisonment of a Dutch cartoonist.

Although a cartoonist may create questionable work, a democratic state should not arrest and imprison someone who has only expressed his vision, no matter how provocative. Intimidating people in such a way is the kind of repressive, censoring gesture that belongs to a dictatorship.

Ritalin

For my regular Swiss gig, Weltwoche Magazine, I did this witty illo accompanying a rather dry, technical article on Ritalin. The drug prescribed to pacify over-active children. My own kid, Clovis, is two months old today and sleeping peacefully as I write this entry. Hopefully I won't be needing any Ritalin to pacify him in the near future...

Networkless

My first isometric pixel illustration for a magazine.

It's very nice to be back in the world of pixels. The purity of pixels has always had a special magical attraction to me, from the days I was playing Pong on a television in my early childhood.

Later I became a pixel artist for commercial 2D computer games in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Hierarchy

Before I was a 3D guy I was a pixel artist for commercial 2D games, from the late 80s to the late 90s. Now I'd like to return to my roots (without leaving 3D of course).

Here's an illustration I made to get into pixeling again. I tried to keep it as minimalistic as possible, in search of the ultimate essence in conveying a visual message.

Here's two illo's I did for a clockface (Lou Lou posted one here some time ago also). The first one they didn't like, so I will use that one for something else. The second one they did like, so that's the one that'll see print.

Prepare yourself for a shameless plug ... :)

Following the success of the Seamour Sheep Illuminative Edition, Crazy Label and Sevensheaven are proud to announce the soon to be available Seamour Sheep Radioactive Edition! In the very near future you've got a new chance to get yourself a Seamour Sheep comic figure in the shape of a limited edition USB-powered lamp, this time featuring atmospheric green LED lighting, a cool radioactivity warning sign on his side and last but not least: motion sensor controlled power switching...!

The Seamour Sheep Radioactive Edition will feature a cool motion sensor that detects when you turn Seamour on his side, turning Seamour's light off. To turn on the light, simply put Seamour back on his feet again. No more plugging and unplugging of power cables, and no ugly visible power switch!

Saint Obama

This faux stained-glass portrait of Barack Obama was comissioned by the Volkskrant. I kinda liked the way it turned out and thought I'd share it with you guys.
