A cover I did for a 'Liber Amicorum' ( a friend's book) dedicated to the deceased Dutch writer Boudewijn Büch, it's title not yet 'tweaked'.
While looking for a missing piece of paper in the Himalayas of paper that surround me, I came across this discarded reject...
The publisher preferred a photo on the cover after all.

I did a doodle in my sketchbook featuring these three confederate zombie musicians. A friend of mine happened to come across this sketch while he was leafing through my sketchbook. He immediately fell in love with the drawing, saying: "if you're ever going to work out this sketch as a proper drawing, I'll buy it off you!" And guess what; so I did.

Unseen Elvis

Recently I was asked to submit this drawing, made in 1993 for 'Oor', a rock-magazine, to a reprint of 'Elvis in Nederland', a book about the King and the Netherlands.
(Ironically, although his manager hailed from Holland, the Pelvis never visited the Lowlands because the Colonel was afraid to get busted for things he'd done in his Dutch days.)

Silhouette

An exercise in 2D vector illustration. I actually created this with the 2D vector shape tools in my 3D program. :) I installed a trial version of Illustrator, only to find out that I can work much faster with the 2D shape tools of my 3D package.

My name is Kees de Boer and I’m a Dutch children-/picture book illustrator.

Among the many books I have illustrated in the Netherlands one of them (in collaboration with the Dutch writer Tjibbe Veldkamp); “Little monkey’s big peeing circus” has also reached readers in Norway and the USA.

In my free time I make these kinds of illustrations, just to do something different.

Pentel Blues

A drawing I did for my stepson Kajo's birthday, in 10 colour-ballpoint-pen ( from the toy-store) and Pentel Hybrid gel-pen , the latter a frustrating tool since only one out of two or three or four are willing to function. ( Also, several of the available colors have been replaced by ugly versions, catering, I guess, to the taste of My Little Pony-girls).

Sorry for the tsunami of posts from my side guys. I'm desperately making use of the scarce spare time I've got to create some stuff for myself.

Finally I've created something purely 2D again, escaping from my usual 3D work. I used to create 2D computer graphics for old school commercial computer games and it was a true delight to return to my old passion.

The lonely teapot

In my never-ending quest to build a bridge between 2D and 3D artwork, here's a 3D teapot I rendered in a raw, experimental 2D style, trying to make it look as non-3D as possible by utilizing texturing and lighting techniques.

I hope one day I can make a living out of creating only this type of 'NPR' work (Non-Photorealistic Rendering), as I'm becoming more and more fed up with the usual, hackneyed, sterile, smooth 'n' shiny realistic 3D graphics.

Connie Palmen

This Connie is in today's NRC, you can see the page on my personal blog. AFTh is on another page, but it would be a bit much for Clogwork to show him too. I had hoped Connie Palmen would be printed a little bigger, but her drawing turns out to be for the "reading club" column, which always just has a small illustration. They never tell me these things. Maybe I have a sketch that would work better at stamp size, if I do, I'll send it to my editor, to print it with next week's column. She'll be reprinted three more times I think.

Shipping expenses

I love style experiments like these. I also love breaking through conventional rules, such as the avoidance of tangents. In this case I processed a couple of deliberate tangents in the image.
